Canadian and Quebec Politicians Criticize NHL

Federal and Quebec politicians are unhappy with the National Hockey League. They banned a Montreal Canadiens watch party in the Gatineau region.

The event organizers said the NHL stopped them from having the party at the Slush Puppie Centre. This is because the Ottawa Senators have exclusive marketing rights in that area.

The organizers also asked the Senators for help, but they refused. The Senators' home is about 35 kilometers away from the party location.

Transport Minister Steve MacKinnon said the NHL made a big mistake. He represents the Gatineau area.

Many hockey fans in Gatineau support the Canadiens. They should be able to get together to enjoy the playoff games.

The Quebec legislature agreed that the NHL should change its decision. They want people in Gatineau and the Outaouais region to be able to host watch parties.

The NHL has not commented on this yet.
