Lieutenant General Truong Manh Dung joined the military in 1987. He had many jobs in Army Corps 1.

In 2023, he became Commander of Army Corps 12. In 2025, he became Commander of Military Region 1.

The General Staff leads the Vietnam People’s Army. It helps make the army stronger and plans military actions.

The General Staff has a Chief and Deputy Chiefs. They have departments for combat, training, and personnel.

The Chief of the General Staff helps the Minister of National Defence when the minister is not there.

The Deputy Chief helps make military plans and works with other government groups. They also make sure everyone follows the rules.

The current Chief of the General Staff is General Nguyen Tan Cuong.
