Finch West LRT to Close for 3 Days

The Finch West LRT will close for 3 days over the Victoria Day weekend, less than 6 months after opening.
Metrolinx announced the closure from May 15 to May 18 to upgrade the system and improve performance.
The line opened in December but had issues with switches, causing closures on cold or snowy days.
The Transportation Minister said the closure is needed for important work and won't happen regularly.
The minister said the maintenance will improve the passenger experience and reliability.
The switch issue was a problem during winter, and this work will improve it and other infrastructure.
The light rail route opened in December as the first new transit line in Toronto since 2002.
However, it had trouble with freezing temperatures and switching systems, suspending service.
The line was closed on Boxing Day and after a winter storm in January for more than a day.
The planned closure is needed before major events this summer.
Metrolinx said the closure makes sense before an influx of visitors for the World Cup.
Completing the work now reduces the need for more service interruptions later.
Metrolinx appreciates patience as they complete these important upgrades.
