He was thankful.

Hangeng, a former Super Junior member, shared his past experiences in an interview. He talked about his time as a K-Pop idol.

Hangeng did not have an easy start. He was broke after debuting with "Twins (Knock Out)" in 2005.

The first year, we had little money.

— Hangeng

The host asked if he earned more than as a trainee. Hangeng said he earned less.

Host: That’s more than as a trainee.

Hangeng: Less.

As a trainee, Hangeng got 4,000 yuan from SM Entertainment. He could send most of it to his parents.

They gave us pocket money. I sent money to my family. I had a bit left, which was enough.

After debuting, Hangeng had less money. Super Junior’s earnings were split among 13 members.

They had to repay the company for trainee expenses. Hangeng could not send money home after debuting.

You have to pay them back. You have to make your own money. There was no way to send much to family.

The other Super Junior members helped Hangeng. They gave him some of their income.

Team members were good to me. They shared their money.

There was not much money, but they helped him.

There was not much anyway. Everyone got little.

Super Junior later had hit songs like "Sorry Sorry" and "BONAMANA".

Hangeng is now 40 and working as an actor in China.
