Chelsea Have the Biggest Pre-Tax Loss in English Football History

Chelsea announced a big loss of £262.4 million for the year ending June 30, 2025. This was the day they said they spent a lot on agents' fees. They spent more than any other English club.

The loss was because the club had higher costs than the year before. This loss was bigger than Manchester City's loss in the 2010-11 season.

Last year, Chelsea made a profit of £128.4m. This was because they sold their women's team for almost £200m.

A UEFA report said Chelsea's loss was even bigger - €407m. But the club said this was because UEFA has different rules.

The Football Association looked at what clubs spent on agents' fees in 2025-26.

Chelsea spent the most - £65.1m. Aston Villa spent £38.4m. All English top-flight clubs spent £460.3m.

The club's agents' fee was high because they sold many players last summer. Even the selling club pays fees.

Chelsea made £490.9m in revenue. This was the second-highest on record. Some of this money was from their Club World Cup win.

Despite the big loss, Chelsea followed the Premier League's rules.

The rules say clubs can lose up to £105m over three years. But some losses can be added back. Chelsea were allowed to do this.

Chelsea are confident they will follow all rules now.

They also need to follow UEFA's rules. Chelsea were fined €20m for breaking a rule last July.

A Chelsea player said it would be hard to reject Barcelona. He also said Chelsea are not at the top level yet.

The club did not publish their full financial report yet. But it will be published soon.

Chelsea think they will make over £700m in revenue this season.

Chelsea spent £1.5 billion on transfers since the new owners bought the club. They made a record amount from selling players last summer.

Chelsea might get a fine from the FA for breaking rules about payments to agents.

The new owners will cover any fines with money they held back when they bought the club.

Chelsea avoided a points deduction. They were fined £10.75m and got a suspended transfer ban.

Chelsea's women's team lost £17.1m. They made £21.3m in revenue.
