Ismael Kone Gets a Hero's Welcome After His World Cup Injury

Ismael Kone of Canada was seen in a wheelchair before the World Cup match between Switzerland and Canada.

Canada star Ismael Kone got a standing ovation at the World Cup. This was his first public appearance after getting hurt. Kone broke his leg during Canada's 6-0 win over Qatar.

Kone broke his tibia and fibula after a challenge from Qatar player Assim Madibo. Madibo was given a red card for the tackle.

Before Canada's match against Switzerland, Kone was seen in a wheelchair on the pitch. He got a hero's welcome from the fans in the stadium.

World Cup star Thomas Muller shook hands with Kone as he passed by. Muller sent Kone a message on social media, saying 'Get well soon!'

Kone had successful surgery on his injury last Thursday. Canada Soccer said he won't play again in the World Cup.

Canada Soccer said Kone had surgery to fix his broken leg. He will recover fully but will miss the rest of the World Cup.

Sassuolo, Kone's club, also talked about his successful surgery.

Sassuolo said the surgery to fix Kone's broken leg was a success. He will start rehab soon and the club wishes him a speedy recovery.

Canada coach Jesse Marsch gave an update on Kone's health after visiting him in the hospital.

Marsch said Kone's surgery took about an hour and a half. Three surgeons did the operation.

The surgeons watched the injury on TV and knew what to do. They were ready to operate when Kone got to the hospital.

Marsch said the surgeons were ready and the medical team agreed that surgery was the best option.

Marsch said the surgery went well and Kone was in good hands.

Canada was top of Group B before the match against Switzerland.
