I visited a UK seaside town that's getting a £25million makeover

Seaside towns are often criticized. They are not always pretty, and they lack investment and infrastructure.

I think seaside towns are sometimes criticized unfairly. As a child, they are magical. The sand, arcade games, and ice cream make a great family day out. Seaside towns have a special charm.

I visited Lowestoft in Suffolk. Before I went, I read about it, and what I found was not great. In 2021, it was named one of the worst seaside towns in the UK. But the town is changing, with a £25 million investment to make it a cultural hub. I was impressed.

We had brunch at Jo Jo's Kitchen, a local restaurant with American food. The menu had many favorites, and even a burger named after Trump. We had pancakes and huevos rancheros, which were perfect for Sunday morning.

We walked on the seafront and watched boats come into the harbor. The old South Pier has an arcade and stalls with classic seaside treats. The pier is improved, with access to a small beach and great views. We played games in the arcade, but didn't win a prize.

The East Point Pavilion is a big glass building that looks old, but was built in the 1990s. Inside, there's a coffee shop and community spaces. We found a cute plant shop, and the venue had many events planned for the summer.

We walked along the promenade and found pretty houses, parks, and cafes.

Every seaside town needs a beach. Lowestoft's beach is great for families, with flat sand and shingle. The sun was out, but the water was cold. I would spend a whole day on this beach. Lowestoft is not perfect, but it's a great destination.

The roads were confusing, and the shopping area was not exciting. But the beach, pier, and friendly people make Lowestoft a great place to visit.

The 2021 ranking was too harsh. The town is changing, with new facilities and attractions. There's still work to do, but Lowestoft could be a great rival to other seaside towns.
