Most of all, visitors love to relax on the beach with its very fine white sand.

There are two islands, Inishkea North and South, separated by a narrow channel, with North being bigger and having more heather and willow.

To see these great views, you can only get to the islands by boat, and there are daily boat trips and guided tours available.

Most of these trips are run by local companies and are available in the summer, run by Belmullet Boat Charters from Belmullet harbour.

The place has some important historical sites, including a Christian monastery with beehive huts near St Colmcille's Church.

It used to be a thriving monastic community and later became stone houses where a fishing village grew.

Even though nobody lives in these buildings or on the island anymore, they are still a fascinating historical attraction for visitors.

Although some people are thought to be on the islands, they don't live there all year round and mostly visit in the summer.

A visitor wrote on TripAdvisor: 'We had a great trip to Inishkea with Belmullet Boat Charters, it's a beautiful island with lots of space to explore, and we swam at one of the beaches with lovely white sand.'

Another visitor said: 'We had a great day, the ferry trip was nice, and our guide told us about what we were seeing. The island was beautiful, we swam and walked for 2 hours, then we returned to the ferry and saw the cliffs, seals, and cormorants.'
