0:00- Why would any human being
want somebody to burn out
0:08As I have more attention, I
feel a greater responsibility,
0:13and so I become very passionate
about creating more context.
0:18I think I'm at my best when I
have time to talk like this,
0:23and I'm not when I'm too excited onstage
0:27or in a one second clip.
0:29I'm becoming more thoughtful
because I'm surprised
0:35at the sheer level of quick
judgements that our society
0:39has become comfortable with.
0:40A lot of people out there
that really pretty much
0:43live their lives based on
other peoples' opinions.
0:45Like happiness and fulfillment
has to become a much bigger
0:49part of the conversation
than financial upside.
0:53I'm always very hurt when
people think that I'm pushing
0:56hustle and too much work
and make it for the money.
0:59You know, my behavior doesn't map to that.
1:02I would've been a venture capitalist then.
1:04Like I'm talking about
actually liking what you do.
1:07There are plenty of interviews
in 2010 where my point
1:10of view on Crush It
was make $86,000 a year
1:14and talk about strawberries.
1:15I've been talking about
happiness the whole time.
1:18I have evolved and been
forced because I feel
1:23like I've been dragged
into being a poster child
1:25of something that I don't
believe in and creating clarity.
1:28I'm very fascinated by the
conversation of work ethic,
1:35I'm fascinated by people's
ability to not take
1:42I never feel like my points
of view and my thoughts
1:45and my hot takes and my
passions and my story are right.
1:48I've never believed that in my life.
1:50I don't know if they're right.
1:51I think I enjoy sharing them
because I enjoy sharing them.
1:54I'm a communicator, but
everybody shares that.
1:59I watch these conversations,
I'm fascinated by them.
2:02I respect other people's points of view,
2:05I just, I don't think,
I just want to make sure
2:07that they don't think
they're right either.
2:10A lot of people that push
against hard work, hustle,
2:13are people who've already hustled
2:15and didn't find fulfillment from it,
2:17but maybe somebody else did.
2:19Don't over judge yourself
in every chapter.
2:22If you're like working
15 hours a day for a year
2:25because you're starting
your videography business,
2:27that's probably okay, it does
take work to start something.
2:30If you've achieved some level
of success three years in
2:34and you don't want to take
it to a $10,000,000 business
2:36from a $3,000,000 business
because you fall in love
2:38and you've started a family and you want
2:40to play wiffle ball outside
with your child, that's amazing.
2:43There is no right, there's
only right for you.
2:47I think one of the biggest things we need
2:48to get more thoughtful about
conversating with yourself
2:51and trying to develop self-awareness
2:53and not look for outside validation.
2:55When people email me and say
Gary Vee, I've been hustling
2:5815 hours a day, I'm like,
you getting enough rest?
2:59You good? Like, are you pumped?
3:04My intention is to be happy,
and so I'm not gonna apologize
3:06for enjoying my work.
3:08- Has anybody called
you a minimalist before?
3:10- No, but it's funny
that you just said that,
3:12like I understand that
about me in some weird way.
3:16When I think about anything
I buy, it's 100% for me.
3:19Even all the chachkas,
the thrill of finding them
3:23at a garage sale or like
the one thing I actually buy
3:26that I think is silly is like
custom New York Jets jerseys,
3:29but so for me, and it
feels very real to me.
3:32Like I don't have outside
things kind of driving me,
3:37and that's what leads me
to a lot of happiness.
3:39I don't care about social
media, I really don't.
3:42I care about humans
communicating with each other.
3:45I'm fascinated by communication,
and I'm fascinated
3:48that we now have a collective
ability to communicate
3:50on a scale that we've never seen before,
3:52and I think right now people are focusing
3:54on the downside of that.
3:56People need to try to be self aware about
3:59what makes them happy and
doesn't make them happy.
4:01Right now, social media, I
view social media as a mirror.
4:05I think what people are
putting out is an incredible
4:07indicator of what's inside of them.
4:08So right now there's a
lot of political anxiety,
4:11there's a lot of ideological anxiety,
4:15and so what we're seeing
is a lot of judgment
4:18or forgetting the upside.
4:20There's so much love and
greatness going on everyday.
4:24I think humans find what
they're looking for.
4:26You're signing into
Twitter to find a fight,
4:29you're gonna find it.
4:31I think if you go to Twitter
or Instagram to find happiness
4:34and positivity, it's there at scale.
