Prime Video's 'best ever original series' returns with 'addictive' new season

The inaugural run of Jury Duty represented an innovative fusion of reality television, situation comedy and mockumentary format when it premiered in 2023. It featured a fabricated courtroom trial where virtually all participants were professional actors.
The legal case itself was entirely fictitious. Yet there was one individual who believed the proceedings were genuine - Ronald. Every occurrence, both within the courtroom and beyond, had been meticulously choreographed and written in advance.
The debut season succeeded in captivating audiences and reviewers in equal measure. It achieved an 84% rating on the Rotten Tomatoes platform, whilst garnering an even more impressive audience rating of 96%.
Those who experienced the initial series continue to champion it enthusiastically and urge others to watch it at their earliest opportunity, reports the Mirror.
As one viewer shared: "Jury Duty is so wholesome and fun [...] Ronald gets put into progressively wackier situations that he handles with humour and ease, becoming a sort of everyday hero, whilst the cast becomes a found family. Think The Office meets The Truman Show."
Another commented: "Addictive right from the very start, its the perfect blend of sitcom and reality TV. Ronald is so likable that it is impossible not to fall in love with him." Whilst a third described it as "incredible reality television, a boundary-pushing hidden-camera program." Someone else remarked: "Jury Duty is an often hilarious, entirely bingeworthy experiment. And when the innocent Ronald realizes how guilty everyone around him truly is...the verdict is nothing short of glorious."
The latest series appears poised to replicate this critical acclaim. Although to successfully deceive another unsuspecting participant they have implemented several modifications. According to its synopsis, Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat documents a corporate offsite gathering at a family-run hot sauce firm from Anthony's viewpoint, a newly appointed temporary employee.
Unknown to Anthony, the entire scenario is fabricated. Every workmate surrounding him is playing a part and each instance whether in meeting spaces or during leisure time has been carefully choreographed. As the founder readies themselves to relinquish control, the retreat evolves into a confrontation between major corporate aspirations and modest enterprise principles, with ownership of the business at stake.
Several viewers who have already watched the fresh instalments are sharing their reactions online. One individual declared it the comeback of Prime Video's 'finest original programme' whilst another stated "Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat is deliciously unhinged." This journalist has already viewed the complete season of Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat and can verify that it represents a magnificent comeback for the programme. For a show with such a concept it seemed like it would be difficult to ever replicate, yet the series is nothing short of a triumph.
Despite the modifications to the setting, arrangement and premise, it follows a remarkably similar trajectory. We are presented with our protagonist and other personalities, their fresh environment and then the zaniness is gradually but consistently amplified to near collapse.
It is arguably one of the finest ensemble shows on television and it is remarkable how many sitcom-style gags they squeeze into each episode alongside the continuous improvisation and reality programme-style storytelling.
Whilst the season will be launching on Prime Video in three instalments, you will want to marathon them all as soon as they drop. Not only that but you will need to rewatch multiple times to catch all the jokes you overlooked the first time around. Just be forewarned whilst there are laughs but by the conclusion, there will also be some tears.
Jury Duty Presents: Company Retreat is streaming on Prime Video starting March 20.
