UK Meat Product Recall Due to Meningitis Risk

A particular meat product has been removed from store shelves in the UK due to contamination with listeria bacteria, which can cause food poisoning. This product was available for purchase at several major retailers, including Tesco, Morrisons, and Asda.
The company responsible, Gilbert's, is taking action to recall its Turkey Breast Pastrami product after detecting the presence of Listeria monocytogenes.
The recall specifically applies to 142g packs of the product with a use-by date of April 9, 2026, and batch codes CK016 or CK027. Infections caused by Listeria monocytogenes can exhibit symptoms similar to the flu, such as a high fever, muscle pain, chills, nausea, and diarrhea.
Listeria infections can lead to a severe and potentially life-threatening condition known as meningitis.
In extreme cases, listeria infections can cause serious complications, including meningitis. Certain groups of people are more susceptible to listeria infections, including individuals over 65, pregnant women, newborn babies, and those with weakened immune systems.
Gilbert's has initiated a recall of the affected product and will display notices at the point of sale in all retail stores that carry the product, as well as on their website, to inform customers of the reason for the recall and the necessary steps to take if they have purchased the product.

The Food Standards Agency has issued a clear warning to consumers: if you have purchased the recalled product, do not consume it. Instead, return it to the place of purchase for a full refund.
