Elevating Mashed Potatoes with Leftover Ingredients

To give my mashed potatoes an extra boost, I experimented with incorporating two leftover ingredients into the recipe.

Mashed potatoes are a versatile side dish that complements a wide range of main courses, from roasted meals to sausage dishes, making them a popular choice in many households.

While browsing online recipes, I noticed variations that included onions, spring onions, and even bacon, but I opted to deviate slightly from tradition by using leeks in combination with cabbage.

As I had both leeks and cabbage leftover from previous meals, it seemed like the ideal opportunity to repurpose them, so I sautéed the leeks and cabbage before adding them to my mashed potatoes.

The outcome was a pleasant surprise, as the addition of these vegetables significantly enhanced the flavor and nutritional value of the dish, making it a worthwhile attempt for those looking to increase their vegetable intake or simply elevate the taste of mashed potatoes.

By incorporating leeks and cabbage into my mashed potatoes, I was able to create a more flavorful and nutritious side dish, and the process of using leftover ingredients helped reduce food waste.
