Marco Arop and Sarah Mitton Take Third Place at Bislett Games

Cooper Lutkenhaus is doing very well this season, winning the world indoor title in March and now the 800m outdoors.

The 17-year-old American won the race in a world-leading time, beating Emmanuel Wanyonyi by a small margin at the Bislett Games in Oslo, Norway.

Marco Arop from Edmonton couldn't catch up in the last 100 meters and finished third with a time of 1:43.33, behind Lutkenhaus and Wanyonyi.

Arop said he planned to stay back and then make a move, but his last 100 meters wasn't good enough, and he hopes to improve for the next race.

Arop thinks the men's 800 meters is very exciting right now, and he's happy to be a part of it.

Arop started his season late on purpose, following a busy schedule in recent years and upcoming campaigns with the worlds next year and the 2028 Olympics.

Last season, Arop won three Grand Slam Track victories in the 800 meters and finished second in the Olympics.

In the race, Lutkenhaus made his move with over 200 meters to go and passed Wanyonyi, who had come in second in Rabat on May 31.

Wanyonyi and Lutkenhaus pulled away from Arop and had a close battle, with Lutkenhaus looking back at Wanyonyi and holding off the Kenyan for the win.

Arop won the bronze medal at the 2025 world championships, losing to Kenyan rival Wanyonyi.

Lutkenhaus said the race was very tough, and he had to give it his all to win, beating the Olympic champion, which means a lot to him.

Wanyonyi said Lutkenhaus is in great shape, and he tried to push him, but his goal was to run his season best and improve.

Lutkenhaus will try to win his third race of the season at the Prefontaine Classic Diamond League meet in Eugene, Oregon, on July 4.

The Diamond League event was held in Oslo, Norway.

For Canadian Sarah Mitton, the women's shot put season has been consistent, with her finishing third behind Chase Jackson and Jessica Schilder.

Jackson from the United States won the event with a best throw of 20.74 meters, followed by Schilder from the Netherlands with 20.11 meters.

Mitton quickly found herself in a familiar position, with her first throw measuring 19.41 meters for third place behind Jackson and Schilder.

Jackson said it's surreal to beat Valerie Adams' meet record, and she wanted to throw over 21 meters as she knows she can from training.

Mitton improved to 19.78 meters on her second throw, then had a foul and 19.17 meters on her next two attempts.

Tebogo asserted his authority in the men's 200m, easing over the line in 19.84 seconds, while Gout finished sixth.

Tebogo said they tried a different approach, and he had the last gear to push and get a sub-20 time.
