Alan Titchmarsh Shares Lawn Mowing Tips

TV presenter Alan Titchmarsh says people make mistakes when mowing their lawns. They cut too much or too little, which can hurt their lawns when the weather gets bad.
Alan shares tips on TikTok. He says don't cut the grass too short. In summer, cut it one inch high. In hot weather, cut it one and a half inches high. This helps the lawn stay green.
If the lawn turns brown, it will get better when it rains.
The way to mow your lawn depends on the weather.
Alan says to mow the lawn at least every two weeks. If you want a thick lawn, mow it every week when it's mild and sunny.
When it's hot and dry, mow the lawn less often and leave more grass.
Alan doesn't think it's a good idea to stop mowing for a whole month. Instead, mow some parts and leave others to grow wild for insects.
If you didn't mow in May, you can still leave your lawn alone in June.
Birds like short grass because they can find worms easily.
A mowed lawn is not bad for wildlife, especially birds.
To help wildlife, use natural fertilizers like blood and bone meal in the spring.
