Scotland's World Cup Hopes in Danger After Loss to Brazil

Scotland's manager, Steve Clarke, walked out of a BBC interview after his team lost 3-0 to Brazil. This loss puts their World Cup hopes in danger. They needed a draw to move on to the next round, but now they must rely on other teams' results.

Scotland can still qualify as one of the best third-placed teams, but their goal difference is a problem. Coach Clarke said, 'We made it difficult for ourselves.' He also said, 'We gave them the goals, we gave them the game they wanted. It's disappointing.'

Clarke was asked about the anxious wait ahead, but he didn't want to think about it. He said, 'I don't even want to think about that! Sorry, I don't need to think about that,' and then walked away.

The BBC had to cut back to their studio after Clarke walked out. He was upset after another disappointing performance from his team. Scotland had beaten Haiti 1-0, but then lost to Morocco and Brazil.

Later, Clarke spoke to the BBC again and said, 'Brazil's quality was clear. We didn't have that tonight. We created some chances, but didn't take them. The best team won.'

Clarke praised his players, saying, 'They put in an unbelievable shift in the heat and humidity. But we have to be better to compete at this level.' He also said they started the game well, but made mistakes.

He said, 'Then we make a mistake like that. You can't do that at this level because it puts you on the back foot and makes for a long night.'

When asked about Scotland's chances, Clarke said, 'I think we're going home. We had a tough schedule, playing Brazil and other strong teams.'

Captain Andy Robertson said, 'We started well, but Brazil punished us. We thought we had more time on the ball, but they put us in a false sense of security.'

Robertson said, 'We got punished, and then we had to try and fight back. But we knew we were up against a quality team. Our initial reaction is one of frustration because we let ourselves down.'

He said, 'At times we were comfortable on the ball, but we made mistakes. We can't afford to make those mistakes against these teams.'

Robertson said, 'We're being punished for almost every mistake. That's the most frustrating thing. We played some nice stuff, but it's not good enough when you lose 3-0.'

He said, 'We need to take a day or two to think about what happened. We didn't want to rely on other teams' results, but that's our situation now.'

Robertson said, 'We've put ourselves in a difficult situation. I don't think we've done enough, but maybe I'll be proved wrong.'

He said, 'The next couple of days will be horrible, but we have to deal with it.'

Midfielder John McGinn said, 'We're gutted. We lost to a team that can punish you with quality. We had some chances, but we have to wait now.'

McGinn said, 'The lads are gutted. We fell short on quality, but we gave it everything. If we go through, we'll see over the next few days.'

He said, 'Brazil hurt us in moments. They allowed us to have the play, but at this level, mistakes are punished. We know we have to be better.'

McGinn said, 'We appreciate the fans' support. We know how difficult it is to be here, and hopefully, our journey's not over.'
