World's Second Best Airport Investigates Security Incident

The Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport started an investigation on May 19 into how a knife got through airport security.

A woman found a 9-cm kitchen knife in her carry-on luggage on an Etihad Airways flight to Abu Dhabi on May 17. She told the cabin crew about it. The incident happened at about 6:20 p.m.

The woman said she used the knife to peel fruit and forgot it in her bag. She is in her 50s.

There was no criminal intent, so the woman could continue her trip.

This incident has raised concerns about a possible security failure at the airport.

Knives are not allowed on planes, no matter how small, and should have been found during screening.

The Transport Ministry will send an inspector to investigate and those responsible will face consequences.

Incheon airport handled 73.55 million international passengers last year, making it the third busiest airport. It is after Dubai International Airport and London Heathrow Airport.

The airport had 19.78 million passengers in the first quarter, which is up 7% from last year. This is a significant increase.
