I Visited a Nice UK Seaside Town with a Great Little Beach

I wanted to go to the seaside when I heard it would be very hot. Folkestone is a town by the sea that is only an hour from London by train. It has nice cliffs, green views, a lovely harbour, and fun shops. I wanted to visit it with my cousin who was in the UK for the first time.

We left London at 3 pm and thought we would avoid the crowds. Our train was almost empty, which was good. But when we got to Folkestone, there were many people. We soon found out we couldn't avoid the crowds on a Bank Holiday.

We walked to the beach through a nice part of town with many colourful shops and buildings. This part of town is special because it used to be a declining port but is now a fun place to visit. A rich man named Sir Roger De Haan helped make it better by investing a lot of money.

When we got to the town, most of the shops and cafes were closed. But we didn't go there to shop, we wanted to swim in the sea. As we walked down, we saw a lively street with many people enjoying the sun.

The town has many places to eat fish and chips, ice cream, and visit pubs with nice outside areas. The harbour is very nice with many boats and a place to eat and drink. It used to be a place where soldiers left for war but is now a fun place to visit.

I thought visiting Folkestone was a good idea because it's not like other seaside towns where the beach is far from the centre.

But I made a mistake. Before we went, I asked a computer which beach to visit. It said to go to a hidden beach called Mermaid Beach. But we decided to go to a sandy beach instead because we thought it would be nicer to swim.

The sandy beach was very crowded and noisy. It had nice sand and views of the cliffs, but it wasn't what we expected. The swim was nice, but it wasn't a relaxing time.

We decided to walk to Mermaid Beach. The walk along the sea was very nice and made me feel like I was on holiday.

The walk took us to a special path called the Zig Zag Path. It was made in 1921 to help people who didn't have jobs after the war. The path and caves look natural but are actually made by people.

When we got to Mermaid Beach, I saw that it was almost empty. It was pebbly, but much quieter than the other beach. The views were even nicer because they were open and not blocked.

The view from the top of the walk was very nice. We could see the beach and the sea, and it felt calm and peaceful. I could imagine going back for a walk or a run.

I would like to visit Folkestone again because there's still a lot to see. But next time, I might listen to the computer's advice.

I learned that sometimes it's good to listen to advice, especially when it comes to finding nice places to visit.
