0:03beauty of Ca trù. During the 15th and

0:0616th centuries, Ca trù was a

0:08sophisticated art form reserved

0:11exclusively for Confucian families and

0:13the aristocracy. However, throughout

0:15history, Ca trù has faced the risk of

0:18disappearing, leading UNESCO to

0:20designate it as an intangible cultural

0:23heritage in need of urgent safeguarding

0:26in October 2009. Today, many young

0:28people are choosing to actively connect

0:31with this heritage by using the language

0:33of their generation.

0:40The ancient art of Ca trù is finding a

0:42digital revival in the hands of the

0:44younger generation. Through creative

0:47projects, young people are bringing

0:48these traditional melodies onto social

0:51media.

0:52Their work is receiving huge praise from

0:54both local and international viewers for

0:57its deep cultural value.

1:03At the Academy of Journalism and

1:05Communication, young people are

1:07discovering new ways to connect with

1:09heritage, and they've come up with a

1:11unique method to bring this

1:12centuries-old art form back into the

1:14digital spotlight.

1:18Ca trù is an academic art form. If it's

1:20remain confined to traditional

1:22performance space, it is very difficult

1:25to reach younger generations. Therefore,

1:27our team has brought Ca trù onto YouTube

1:29platforms through the most accessible

1:32formats to bring this art closer to more

1:34young people.

1:37Beyond gaining public support, these

1:39students have deeply moved the artists

1:41who guarded this heritage for decades.

1:53Ca trù is the soul and the essence of

1:55our nation, handed down by thousands of

1:57generations. I truly believe that young

2:00people with their strengths in

2:01creativity and information technology

2:04will help that to live on forever within

2:06Vietnam, Hanoi, and in the hearts of all

2:09those who love this art form.

2:13With their innovative mindset and

2:15technological proficiency, young people

2:17have transformed past heritages,

2:19including Ca Tru, into products that are

2:22now more relatable, engaging, and

2:24vibrant. This has raised awareness of

2:27Vietnamese culture among local youth

2:29while simultaneously introducing our

2:31heritage to the global stage.

2:36Initiatives like Tieng Ca Nhip Phach

2:38prove that the youth are now the active

2:40heart of heritage preservation.

2:42Supported by the strategic framework of

2:45Resolution 80, Ca Tru is moving beyond

2:48urgent safeguarding to become a vibrant

2:50part of modern life.

3:03Vietnam is preserving its cultural

3:05heritage in the global context, our

3:08reporter had a conversation with

3:10Jonathan Baker, UNESCO Representative to

3:12Vietnam, about the country's journey and

3:15the pivotal role of the youth in his

3:18this mission.

3:20Thank you, Mr. Jonathan, for taking your

3:22time with Vietnam today. Thank you for

3:24having me.

3:25Um what's your view on the Vietnam's

3:28current approach to the preservation of

3:30Ca Tru? So, I think Vietnam's approach

3:34preserving Ca Tru is is really

3:36fantastic. They've done an incredible

3:37job.

3:38For example, the creation of festivals

3:40that are celebrating

3:42this intangible cultural heritage

3:44through a series of trainings that we've

3:46worked also with Vietnam to ensure

3:49it happens all over the country and and

3:51and

3:51this this knowledge both from these

3:54practitioners, the specialists that know

3:56the most about it, but also transmit

3:58that to the younger generations. Well,

4:01we are seeing more young people engaging

4:03with cultural heritage in creative ways.

4:06So, how do you view the role of youth in

4:09safeguarding its intangible cultural

4:11heritage such as ca trù?

4:14So, I think the the role of young people

4:16is is very important because for UNESCO

4:19intangible cultural heritage needs to be

4:21living heritage. And and who better than

4:23young people to bring to life intangible

4:26cultural heritage. You know, young

4:27people of course have

4:30now know how to use social media and

4:32technology in a way that maybe older

4:34generations are not

4:35that accomplished with. And so, doing

4:38that is I think brought intangible

4:39cultural heritage to a

4:41to a broader part of the population, not

4:43only young people, but all of Vietnam.

4:46And so, I think young people have helped

4:47to promote intangible cultural heritage

4:49through through social media, through

4:51technology in a way that hadn't been

4:53done before.

4:55Under the UNESCO's framework

4:57safeguarding, you know, cultural

4:59heritage, what more should Vietnam

5:01prioritize to ensure its long-term

5:03sustainability in preserving the

5:06intangible cultural heritage? So, I

5:08think there's there's a few things that

5:11we would advocate that Vietnam should

5:13should be doing.

5:14One of them is to continue to have this

5:16intergenerational

5:18knowledge, this intergenerational

5:19transmission. That's one of the key

5:21aspects of intangible cultural heritage

5:23because you have to preserve it as part

5:24of the social fabric of Vietnamese

5:26society. So, this intergenerational

5:28knowledge, especially between the the

5:30the practitioners, the the ones that

5:32know the most about

5:34ca trù, and the the younger generations

5:36to be able to transmit that. And to do

5:38that

5:39you know, you can do it through

5:40different

5:41ways. You can also do it through through

5:42festivals, their moments of the year.

5:43Another aspect of course is training to

5:46continue to preserve this this knowledge

5:48about the true to a better understanding

5:50about how you know the the practitioners

5:52themselves to have more practitioners

5:55so that their people are able to see it

5:56and then enjoy it

5:58different parts of moments of the year

5:59and for many years to come.
