Ho Chi Minh City Starts Vesak with Big Parade

On May 24, a special parade with the baby Buddha statue and 16 flower cars went from An Quang Pagoda to Viet Nam Quoc Tu Pagoda.
This event started the Vesak week organized by the city's Buddhist group.
People gathered at 7 p.m. outside An Quang Pagoda and walked to Viet Nam Quoc Tu Pagoda. The parade went through many streets.
The parade was very long and colorful with flags and flowers. A woman named My Tam felt lucky to join it.
Many people watched the parade as it moved through the streets.
People stood with their hands together, saying a Buddhist prayer as the parade passed by.
After an hour, the parade arrived at Viet Nam Quoc Tu Pagoda for a special ceremony.
A Buddhist leader named Thich Le Trang led the ceremony.
The ceremony is based on a legend about two dragons spraying water on a baby prince.
The baby Buddha statue is made of special jade from Kazakhstan. It will stay at the pagoda for a week.
Many people waited in line to join the ceremony and honor the birth of Buddha.
Vesak is a time to remember the life of Buddha and think about being kind, wise, and peaceful.
