Vietnam's richest man Pham Nhat Vuong works on Hanoi's $49B metro projects

Vingroup, Vietnam's largest private company, will be in charge of building all five lines.
Important people attended the start of the metro project in Hanoi on June 22, 2026.
Vingroup is already building a metro line in Ho Chi Minh City and a high-speed line to Ha Long Bay.
The five metro lines in Hanoi are different sizes.
The longest line, Line 8, will be about 91 km long and go through many areas.
Line 1 will be about 81 km long and connect many parts of the city.
Line 2 will be 56.5 km long and connect the airport to the southern part of the city. Line 10 will be 43 km long and connect many areas. Line 14 will be the shortest at 32 km.

The city's leader, Vu Dai Thang, says this is the biggest urban rail project in Hanoi's history.
He says the metro will help reduce traffic and make the city more connected.
When finished, the lines will connect many important places in the city.
This project is part of a bigger plan to build a 979-km urban rail network in Hanoi.
The city wants to finish about 500 km of the network by 2035.
Right now, Hanoi only has two short metro lines.
It took over 10 years to finish the first line, so it's a challenge to finish five lines in four years.
The government wants to use big infrastructure projects to help the economy grow, and private companies are playing a bigger role.
