Following the match, the 2025 French Open titleholder expressed her disappointment by forcefully striking her racket against the court. Gauff later admitted that she had hoped the cameras would miss this moment, telling reporters that she sought a private place for her emotional release.
Williams' husband, Alexis Ohanian, promptly expressed his support for the eliminated quarter-finalist, posting a screenshot of various articles covering the event on X. He stated: "Honestly, I love the energy and emotion from @CocoGauff - we appreciate sports because it's genuine, because these athletes invest their ALL into the competition, and sometimes (like life) you don't secure a win. The media will spin this personal moment for clicks, but Coco did nothing wrong here."
Williams endorsed her husband's viewpoint, sharing her own message on X where she suggested that Gauff's response derived from true competitive spirit and unyielding drive to succeed. "Well said. @alexisohanian Passion. Caring. Matters. Nothing wrong with disliking to lose," Williams posted on X, before playfully offering Gauff counsel on racket striking.
"Now Coco, whenever you're ready, I can show you how to smash it in one go... Serena style," she quipped. In the 59-minute loss, Gauff recorded just three winners against Svitolina, while accumulating 26 unforced errors and five double faults in her quarter-final match, revealing her persistent serving challenges.
After the match, Gauff shared that she opted to express her frustrations away from the court, as she did not want her team to be affected by her emotional outburst. "I know myself. I don’t want to take it out on my team. They are good people," Gauff remarked.
"They deserve better. I realize I'm emotional. I just took a moment to do that. I don't see it as a negative. I avoid doing it in front of kids and stuff like that. But I recognize I need to release that emotion.
"If not, I might be irritable with those around me. I don’t want to act that way. Like I mentioned, they don’t deserve it. They gave their all. I did mine. I just needed to let out the frustration."
