0:00So in this English lesson, I wanted
0:02to teach you two phrases that we use
0:04in kind of a unique situation.
0:07And in my opinion, they're two
0:08of the nicest phrases that we ever say
0:11in the English language.
0:13Now, the situation where you use these
0:15phrases is at the end of a conversation
0:19that you've had with someone who you
0:21know well but haven't seen for a while.
0:24So a good example would be if I haven't
0:26seen my aunt in a very long time, and
0:29this actually happened the other day,
0:31and if I have a little conversation
0:33with her and we catch up on what's been
0:36going on in our lives and we stand and
0:38talk.
0:39It was at the grocery store.
0:41We stand and talk for a little while,
0:42and it's very, very enjoyable.
0:44At the end of the conversation as
0:47we're saying goodbye to each other,
0:49because I really like my aunt and
0:51enjoy talking to her, I will most
0:53likely say, it was good
0:55seeing you again, or it was great
0:57to see you, or it was really nice
0:59seeing you.
1:01This is just a very,
1:02very nice phrase to use.
1:04Essentially, it means that you really
1:06like the person and obviously you
1:09really, really enjoyed talking to them.
1:12So if you meet someone and you have a
1:15conversation with them in English, and
1:16it's someone you know well and someone
1:18you really enjoy spending time with,
1:21and you haven't seen them for a while,
1:22at the end of the conversation, you
1:24could say one of those three
1:26variations of the phrase, it was good
1:28seeing you.
1:28It was nice seeing you.
1:29It was great seeing you.
1:31The second phrase is very
1:34similar, but it's a little more...
1:36It's used a little more frequently.
1:37I guess I would say the next phrase
1:40is the phrase, it was nice talking,
1:42or it was nice chatting.
1:44So let's say I run into an old friend
1:46while I'm walking in town, and we
1:48stop and we talk for a little while.
1:50As I leave, I might
1:52say, well, I gotta go.
1:53It was nice talking, or it
1:54was nice chatting with you.
1:56It was great chatting with you.
1:57It was very, very fun
1:59having a conversation with you.
2:01By the way, that last one, I wouldn't
2:03say that's more of the description.
2:04The phrase is definitely, it
2:06was nice chatting or it
2:07was nice talking with you.
2:09So I think these phrases are just
2:11really, really good to learn.
2:14I know they won't be used a lot,
2:15necessarily, in your English
2:17conversations, but they certainly
2:20communicate a positive
2:23feeling, towards the person.
2:25And they're not formal
2:26or anything like that.
2:27And, you can use them with anybody.
2:30I, could say to my aunt
2:31it was good seeing you.
2:32It was nice seeing you.
2:33I could say it to a former
2:35person that I used to work with.
2:37I could use it.
2:38If I was talking to a former employer
2:40or a former boss, I could say,
2:42hey, it was nice seeing you again.
2:44Or, it was nice seeing you.
2:45It was good to see you.
2:47And then again, if I ran into my
2:48brother, who maybe I haven't seen for a
2:50couple weeks, and we started talking
2:52about old times, at the end of the
2:54conversation, I could say, hey, it was
2:55nice chatting.
2:56Or it was nice talking.
2:57By the way, chatting is just
2:58another word for talking.
3:00We have a couple of different verbs
3:01for that, to describe that kind
3:05of thing, that kind of conversation.
3:07Anyways, thanks for watching
3:08this short English lesson.
3:10It is really nice weather here
3:12in Ontario, Canada, and I'm just
3:14enjoying walking through town.
3:15I hope with my new camera, you can kind
3:18of see a little bit better the houses
3:21behind me as I make this lesson.
3:23Because, part of the fun of me
3:25making these lessons is I always say,
3:28if the lesson isn't interesting,
3:31the background should
3:32at least be interesting for you.
3:33So, anyways, thanks for watching.
3:35I'll see you next week
3:36with another English lesson.
3:37Bye.
