People Want Another Holiday in England

There are new calls for an extra holiday in England next year to remember an important day.
The UK Government said there will be eight holidays in England in 2027. Because Christmas and Boxing Day are on weekends, two holidays will be moved to December 27 and 28. Only the King can change or add holidays. For example, Scotland got a new holiday on June 15 because they qualified for the World Cup. The King can make these changes.
This is the first time in 28 years. Now, a new petition wants an extra holiday in England next year.
The person who started the petition, Derek Hilling, said: 'Make July 12, 2027, a holiday to celebrate England's 1100th birthday.'
He also said the Government should help plan celebrations for that day. He thinks July 12, 927, was when England first became one country, so it should be celebrated.
After that day, the king called himself the King of the English. The petition wants the Government to make July 12 a holiday so people can celebrate.
The petition has 1,330 signatures so far. People can sign until September 11, 2026.
If 10,000 people sign, the Government will respond. If 100,000 people sign, it might be discussed in Parliament.
