A Charity Helps a Dog with Anxiety

She loved dogs and decided to get one. She chose an Italian Greyhound, a gentle breed.
Michelle picked an Italian Greyhound because they are gentle and loving. She brought home a 12-week-old puppy named Dante.
Michelle said, 'I love Italian Greyhounds. They are gentle.' Dante was a good puppy, but he was still a puppy.
At first, everything was fine. But when Dante was eight months old, he met some aggressive dogs and got anxious.
Dante met two aggressive dogs and one that bit him. After that, he was anxious around other dogs.
Dante would bark and pull on the leash when he saw other dogs. He was very anxious.
Dante's anxiety got worse. Michelle had to hold him tight so he wouldn't nip her legs.
Michelle asked a trainer for help, but Dante's behavior didn't improve.
Michelle was very upset. She didn't want to walk Dante anymore because she was scared of other dogs.
The situation was so bad that Michelle thought about giving Dante away.
Then Michelle found a charity called Woodgreen that helps pets and their owners.
Woodgreen provides many services, including advice and support for pets and owners.
Last year, Woodgreen helped over 5,700 pets and owners at home.
Michelle contacted Woodgreen, and they sent a specialist named Steph to help her and Dante.
Steph visited Michelle and Dante and saw how anxious Dante was. She noticed that Dante's ears were back and he was tense.
Steph said, 'Dante is a gentle dog, but he is afraid. His aggression is actually fear.'
Steph taught Michelle how to read Dante's body language and stay calm when he was anxious.
Michelle said, 'I made sure to get Dante's attention and reassure him when he was anxious. He listened and calmed down.'
Woodgreen wants every pet to have a happy home and every owner to get the support they need.
The Woodgreen team helps owners and pets in many ways, including visiting homes and providing food and advice.
Woodgreen works with owners to keep pets and people together. They help before a crisis happens.
If a pet and owner can't stay together, Woodgreen takes care of the pet until it finds a new home.

Steph suggested walking Dante on shorter, quieter routes and ending walks on a positive note.
Steph also said that Michelle's emotions were affecting Dante's anxiety. Michelle didn't realize she was making Dante more anxious.
Steph said, 'Dante was on edge, and Michelle was too. When the owner is anxious, the dog senses it.'
Steph explained that Dante was in fight-or-flight mode, but since he was on a leash, he couldn't run away.
The results of Steph's help have been amazing. Dante's behavior is much better now.
Michelle said, 'Things are much better now. We only have problems about 10% of the time, and I think Dante's behavior can completely change.'
Michelle had tried a dog trainer before, but she was grateful for Steph's approach.
Michelle said, 'We learned to read Dante and reassure him. Steph said dogs need to feel our trust, so I kept trying.'
Steph visited Michelle and Dante again and said, 'Dante is a different dog now. He's confident, happy, and relaxed.'
Dante can even go to the beach and run around off his leash. Michelle worked hard, and Dante is a happy dog now.
