DWP gives £5,959 a year to households with no income check

The DWP has confirmed a yearly payment of nearly £6,000 with no income check.

The DWP gives up to £110.40 per week for Attendance Allowance. This means anyone can get the full benefit, up to £5,959 a year, regardless of income or savings. You can get this if you qualify for both parts.

People who need help with personal care due to illness or disability can claim this benefit. There are two weekly rates, depending on the help you need, but it's only for state pensioners.

State pensioners over 75 can get £9,877 extra, on top of their state pension.

The Met Office has named 18 areas that will have heavy rain on Sunday.

The lower rate is £73.90 per week for those who need help during the day or at night. The higher rate is £110.40 per week for those who need help during the day and night, or who are very ill.

Age UK says the money is given regardless of income or savings. It's not taxable and won't affect other benefits. In fact, it can help you get other benefits like Pension Credit or council tax reduction.

To claim, you need to be of state pension age and have any type of disability or illness.

Age UK adds that you can claim if you have a disability, physical or mental illness, including sight or hearing problems or conditions like dementia. You can get help with personal care, like washing or dressing.

You need to have needed help for at least six months, unless you're very ill, in which case you can claim right away.

Martin Lewis explained on his show that there's a law that defines the kind of help that warrants claiming the benefit.

He said that help is defined as assistance with daily living, like breathing, eating, or walking.

This help includes things like getting in or out of bed, dressing, or using the bathroom, which a healthy person can do on their own.

That's the definition of help that's needed.

You can see that many people can be helped by this.

Martin listed conditions like Parkinson's, physical disabilities, dementia, or terminal illness, which would likely qualify.

You can apply for someone else if they can understand or if you have Power of Attorney.
