0:35said franchise would get a reboot

0:37announced two weeks after I posted and

0:39every single day since then people have

0:41been tweeting at me saying hey James did

0:44you know Netflix is making a Dark

0:45Crystal series yes I know do you know

0:49who you're talking to if you don't know

0:51what the heck I'm talking about then I

0:53recommend you watch my video the movie

0:55that was too scary for baby James

0:57in that video I reviewed a scary kid's

0:59movie called the Dark Crystal the movie

1:02was more or less a passion project of

1:04Jim Henson the creator of the Muppets

1:05and so this movie was done entirely with

1:08puppets it came out before I was born

1:10but I still somehow watched it and got

1:12scarred for life in my review I said

1:14some good things about the movie like I

1:15thought it was a very creative and

1:17artistic film but I also said some

1:20negative things about it too as

1:21youtubers sometimes we forget that our

1:24videos are public and can be viewed by

1:26anyone and when we talk about companies

1:28we can forget that real people are

1:30attached to those properties who have

1:32poured hundreds of hours into these

1:34projects and there's a chance they'll

1:36see our videos and unbeknownst to me

1:38Lissa Henson current CEO of the Henson

1:41Company saw my video and for some reason

1:44I never considered that was ever going

1:47to happen if I had known that Lisa

1:49freakin Henson was gonna watch my video

1:52I probably would have worded a few

1:54things differently I don't think she was

1:55too mad at my video though because she

1:57invited me to tour the Henson office and

1:59I got to see a real-life Skeksis puppet

2:01which resurfaced an unhealthy amount of

2:03repressed memories and I got to meet

2:05some of the puppeteers which was a whole

2:06lot of fun also before age of resistance

2:09was released I got contacted by Netflix

2:11and they invited me and some other Dark

2:13Crystal fans to an

2:14early screening of the first two

2:15episodes and I signed a nondisclosure

2:16agreement so I couldn't spoil anything I

2:19don't remember when that NDA said I was

2:21allowed to talk about it again but

2:22hopefully I'm in the clear when I was in

2:24the early screening I just remember

2:26thinking about how cool that these

2:27characters in this world were back on

2:29the big screen Netflix has a pre big

2:32screen and the puppetry and

2:33cinematography have only gotten better

2:35and the fact that 95% of everything was

2:38done with practical effects and puppets

2:40it's it's beautiful there's not a single

2:42human in this series except in episode

2:4410 when this puppeteers head can be seen

2:47for a couple frames I just checked and

2:49they actually took it out so I still saw

2:53it so much time and care and hard work

2:56was put into this series that there is a

2:57documentary made about how hard it was

2:59to make this series if any of you are

3:01wondering know where unep does not make

3:04an appearance in age of resistance nor

3:06is there a naked baby Jen puppet also if

3:09you're worried that the show wasn't

3:10going to be as dark and scary as the

3:12original don't worry it's darker and

3:15scarier than the original the Netflix

3:17Family Twitter account was nice enough

3:19to timestamp every scary part in the

3:21series and as you can see stuff goes

3:23down in episode 10 surprisingly though

3:25they didn't blacklist the scene of the

3:27Skeksis peeing out of three different

3:28piece streams in episode 6 at 28 minutes

3:31and 41 seconds really makes you think so

3:34artistically this series is beautiful

3:37and it needs to do well because it's

3:38left open for a season 2 and I want to

3:40season 2 to get greenlit I'm not gonna

3:42do a plot summary of the whole thing

3:43like I did in the first review because I

3:45don't want this video to be an hour long

3:47and you should watch it for yourself I'm

3:48not just gonna do everything for you I'm

3:50not your mom but there are some things

3:52you should know before you go watching

3:54the series this is kind of spoilery but

3:56I won't spoil that much so this alien

3:59planet is home to these creatures called

4:01gelfling z' they can share memories with

4:03each other by holding hands and the girl

4:05Kell flings have wings there's also this

4:07other creature called agura who's been

4:09around since the beginning of the world

4:10she's basically Yoda's sassy grandma and

4:13then at a know where these true aliens

4:15visit stay with me here and they cracked

4:18this very important crystal and in doing

4:20so they split into two different

4:22creatures their goodness becomes this

4:24thing called a mystic who are dumb and

4:26their bad side

4:27these cool bird monsters called Skeksis

4:30and then the Skeksis took over the

4:31entire world so whoops none of this is

4:34explained in the original movie and it's

4:36not explained in the series until

4:37episode 7 but I think that the tree

4:39alien backstory should have started the

4:41series which is why I just spoiled it

4:44for you

4:44the original 90-minute film already had

4:47so much lore and this new Netflix reboot

4:50just added even more lore there's even a

4:52character named lore how much lore is

4:55there speaking of names there are a lot

4:58of made-up words in this series and

4:59sometimes those made-up words are hard

5:02to remember within the first minute of

5:04age of resistance the narrator tells us

5:06that there are seven clans to the

5:08skeleton but that only names three

5:10because there are only three important

5:11ones that we should care about I don't

5:13even know the names of the other four

5:14clans and I'm like a Dark Crystal

5:16aficionado also there are like ten evil

5:18bird monsters all with names like sketch

5:21so sketch Hill sketch Tech and Shrek

5:24granted most of the time they go by

5:26their more common names like Chamberlain

5:28or the Emperor but gosh dang it I can't

5:31even remember some of those names

5:33that's the one and that's the one

5:35that made that weird face in the

5:37original movie and that's the one whose

5:39voice does not sound like a Skeksis at

5:40all now what vex is you child another

5:44thing you should know is that I thought

5:46this series was pretty slow maybe it's

5:49because I'm impatient or I'm used to

5:51watching YouTube videos at two x speeds

5:53exclusively but do you remember in the

5:55original movie how there was a scene

5:57where the Skeksis ate dinner for two

5:59whole minutes and visually it was

6:01amazing but the whole time you're

6:03thinking yeah I get it

6:05well there are a lot of scenes like that

6:07in the series let's take the beginning

6:09of episode 2 for example it starts with

6:11a character we've never seen before

6:13waking up and putting on his shoes and

6:17making porridge and then spilling the

6:21porch on his shirt and brushing his hair

6:25then roughing it up and grabbing his

6:29cleaning supplies and it's just a whole

6:32minute of this unnamed character getting

6:34ready for his day it's just so poor just

6:36cut it please

6:37I don't want to be that bad if this was

6:38the only example but trust

6:41me there are plenty of examples I just

6:43don't want to spoil any of them for you

6:44turning a 90 minute movie into a nine

6:47hour TV series you're going to have some

6:49filler or some scenes that don't

6:50necessarily drive the plot forward I get

6:53that luckily I found this chrome plug-in

6:55that lets you watch Netflix at 2 times

6:57speed so it's all good making this video

7:00has got me thinking about prequels and

7:01how tricky they are to do right in the

7:03original movie there are only two

7:05gelfling x' left in the entire world so

7:07a prequel that sets up a world with

7:09seven different gelfling clans we as an

7:11audience know that something's gonna

7:13happen and it ain't gonna look good for

7:14the kill fling the series also added

7:16this MacGuffin halo sword looking thing

7:18that was supposed to save the world but

7:21the whole time watching that I kept

7:22thinking no that's not how the world is

7:26saved the world is not saved until 1982

7:28also there are certain characters that

7:30we know can't die because they're in the

7:32original movie but boy does this show

7:35make you thinks emoji characters are

7:36gonna die it almost makes me wish that

7:38the writers use the 80s Dark Crystal

7:40movie as inspiration and rebooted this

7:42series in its own separate universe

7:44movie reviewers tend to focus a lot on

7:46the negatives and I don't want to come

7:48off as a hater cuz I really did enjoy

7:49this series and I want a season two to

7:51get made so let's end this video with

7:53some of the things I liked about this

7:55series I liked that we got to see the

7:57Skeksis with more personality because

7:58they were always so over-the-top evil

8:01the hunter Skeksis was just on a whole

8:03new level of cool all the other Skeksis

8:05never came across as threatening like

8:07like look how slow they walk I could

8:09beat them up with the hunter Skeksis oh

8:11man he was view is awesome do you think

8:13he'll be my friend I like that the

8:14series didn't tone down the darkness and

8:16if anything they amplified it because

8:18everyone like me should have a

8:19deep-seated fear of puppets there are

8:21some great nods to the original Dark

8:23Crystal like when the Emperor skeksi

8:25says we all know that's the very first

8:33thing he does in the original movie

8:35celadon is a piece of garbage and does

8:36not deserve a Redemption arc the voice

8:38acting is amazing there are a lot of

8:41talented people voicing these characters

8:42like Luke Skywalker a youtuber named

8:44Barney Dixon who made these very cool

8:46Mantis finger puppets got to work on a

8:48scene where the puppets put on a mini

8:50puppet show and that was everything I

8:52liked about Dark Crystal Age resistance

8:54so in conclusion if you have nine hours

8:57of free time download the video speed

8:59controller plug-in set that bad boy to

9:00two and save yourself four and a half

9:02hours but do watch age of resistance

9:04also executives
