Mekkhala Becomes Strongest June Typhoon in 22 Years

Vietnam's weather center said Mekkhala became a super typhoon on June 23 with very strong winds.
Mekkhala is the seventh storm to form in the area this season.
Mekkhala is east of the Philippines and is moving north. It will pass by the Philippines and head towards Japan.
In the next day, the storm will move slowly north at about 5 kilometers per hour and stay strong.
The storm will turn north and then northeast towards Japan, where it will get weaker.
The authorities are watching the storm closely as it gets near Japan.
Another storm is forming in the area and will likely get stronger in the next day. It is moving in a similar path to Mekkhala.
This new storm will not enter the East Sea, according to forecasters.
The El Nino weather pattern will likely reduce the number of storms in the East Sea this year.
Between 8 and 10 storms will form in the area, and 3 to 5 will affect the mainland.
The most storms will happen between July and September in northern Vietnam and October and November in central Vietnam.
