1:27skeletons and assume their adult winged

1:40At first they're white and soft, but

1:43they have until dawn to complete their

1:45transformation.

2:00After an absence of 17 years, the forest

2:04is now overrun by cicardas.

2:14The adults are clumsy and very edible.

2:28For turtles and other inhabitants of the

2:30forest, this is a feast they're lucky to

2:33see once in their lifetime, and they

2:35gorge themselves while they can.

2:51Times have never been so good. The

2:53cicardas have no defenses and virtually

2:56offer themselves to their attackers.

3:09The stream of insects is so relentless

3:12that soon all the predators are full to

3:14the point of bursting.

3:27And still the cicardas come with the

3:30predators overwhelmed. The survivors can

3:33achieve their purpose.

3:38After mating, the adults lay their eggs

3:42and then their job is done. In just a

3:45few days, they will all die and the

3:47forest will fall silent. The cicardas

3:50here will not be heard again for another

3:5417 years.
