0:36first date, Julian asked me what my work

0:39dream was. I scoffed because I said, "I

0:42don't have a work dream." But then later

0:44in the evening, I shared with him

0:46something that I hadn't shared with

0:47anyone, and that was that I had always

0:50wanted to have a bookstore. Flash

0:52forward two years later, we were

0:54married. Julian called me and he said,

0:56"I'm standing in your bookstore."

0:59He claims that the door was open and

1:01kind of beckoned him in. I was a

1:03reluctant entrepreneur, but we took a

1:05leap of faith and we opened Buckston

1:08Books on that little corner and we built

1:10it one book at a time. Bye. Good to see

1:16>> We started the tour company over 30

1:19years ago along the same themes of

1:20Buckton Books to spark connection to

1:24learn about Charleston and to bring the

1:26community together.

1:28>> The Ghost of Charleston tour, the

1:29signature tour, which is based on the

1:31book that Julian wrote. We leave from

1:33the bookstore, walk the streets to some

1:35of the sites that these stories are

1:37being told. The tours end inside of the

1:401772 Unitarian Graveyard. And it is a

1:44really magical place. We like to say

1:47history, mystery, and wonder. That's

1:49what you get on our tours.

1:57We've had consistent growth every year

1:59for the past 10 years, and we know that

2:02the landscape is changing all of the

2:04time. Before we opened our own small

2:07business, I did not know that American

2:10Express did what they do, their

2:12commitment to small businesses. For this

2:15next chapter, we hope to work smarter,

2:17not harder. And there are so many things

2:20that we could do, but the trends and

2:22insights within the American Express

2:24shop small resource hub help us decide

2:27where to put our resources, where can we

2:29best focus for this next chapter. It's

2:32an extraordinary resource and I would

2:34encourage small businesses to take

2:36advantage of that.

2:38When you're a small business, you're so

2:40focused on the work that you do every

2:42day. It takes just about everything out

2:45of you. So, I think it's very typical

2:47for small businesses to not even be

2:49aware of the resources that are there to

2:52help.
