An accident caused by an opening car door on Xo Viet Nghe Tinh Street in HCMC, March 14, 2025 as captured by a dashcam.
No injuries were reported. However, the driver left the scene despite being asked by the motorcyclist and another driver to stay and resolve the matter.
The incident was captured on the dashcam from a vehicle behind.
In a statement to police, the driver said the door had not been fully closed, prompting him to reopen it to shut it properly. Believing the collision was minor, he continued driving. When someone later knocked on his car window asking him to stop, he suspected a possible scam and chose not to pull over.
After footage of the incident circulated on social media, the driver contacted the affected parties and offered compensation.
Besides the fine, the car driver also had 10 points deducted from his driver's license.
Vietnam introduced a new 12-point driver's license system in January last year, under which points are deducted for traffic violations instead of automatic license suspension. Drivers who lose all 12 points face a license suspension and must pass a traffic law test after six months to restore their points.
