Pilot Shares Secret of Every Flight

A pilot shared what happens behind the flight deck.

As a passenger, it's hard to know what pilots do. They prepare, plan, and fly the plane at 41,000 feet with many controls.

Beyond flying, there are unusual aspects. Wizz Air pilot Tom Copestake shared what it's like in the wings.

Tom said, 'We see parts of the earth that no one has walked on.' He feels small but loves the view of snow, mountains, or desert.

Tom enjoys the view with a cup of coffee and a croissant. He said, 'Nothing beats it, especially over the Alps.'

People ask Tom, 'Don't you just sit and fly?' But it's not that simple. The plane has automation and assistance.

Tom said, 'We program the plane to do what we want, safely and efficiently.' It's not exhausting.

Tom explained, 'There's a lot of work behind the scenes.' When an announcement says they're finishing paperwork, it's true.

Many things happen to get travelers from A to B. There's a lot of work before passengers board.

You can't understand the work unless you see it from the flight deck. It's a huge operation with support teams.

Before flying, Tom gets a vanilla latte and an almond croissant. It resets his mind for work, no matter the time.
