A Beautiful Island Near Tokyo

There's a beautiful island near Tokyo that you should visit.

This island is near Ishigaki, off Okinawa. We flew from Osaka to Okinawa, then to Ishigaki. We didn't think we'd like the island, but we were wrong. The island is called Taketomi. We went there and had a great time. We didn't know what to expect. We thought it would be boring.

Taketomi is in the Yaeyama District of Okinawa Prefecture, Japan. It's one of the Yaeyama Islands.

The islands have coral reefs, jungles, and a relaxed atmosphere. They're great for snorkelling and diving.

We took a minibus to the village. Then we rode on water buffalo carts. It was a 30-minute tour of the traditional village.

We were lucky to ride on a cart pulled by a water buffalo.

The tour was amazing. Our guide played traditional music on a sanshin. It was like being in a movie. I won't forget it.

We bought a photo, then had lunch. Only about 300 people live on the island, so there aren't many restaurants.

The island was a nice change from big cities in Japan.

We went to the beach and saw golden sand and clear water. I loved it.

Taketomi is very pretty.

We paddled in the sea, which was warm. You have to go far out to swim, but it's worth it.

If you're going to Japan, visit Okinawa or Ishigaki. I recommend Ishigaki. Okinawa is more touristy now.

We loved Ishigaki and want to visit another island. But remember, Ishigaki can have earthquakes and tsunamis. Typhoon season is from June to November.
