Vietnam's Leader to Visit Singapore

General Secretary and President To Lam and Singapore's President Tharman Shanmugaratnam.
At the invitation of Singapore's President Tharman Shanmugaratnam, General Secretary and President To Lam will visit Singapore from May 29 to 31 with his spouse and a high-level Vietnamese team.
During the trip, To Lam will attend the Shangri-La Dialogue and give a keynote speech. He was invited by Dr. Bastian Giegerich, Director-General of the International Institute for Strategic Studies.
This is the second time To Lam and his spouse will visit Singapore. In 2025, they visited and the two countries became Comprehensive Strategic Partners.
The Shangri-La Dialogue is a major security forum in Asia. It started in 2002 and is a platform for top defense officials to discuss security issues. The International Institute for Strategic Studies organizes it every year.
The conference has speeches, debates, and private talks about security issues.
The event was canceled in 2020 and 2021 due to Covid-19. It returned in 2022 with a large gathering.
The forum allows participants to share views on key defense and security issues in the Asia-Pacific region. Vietnam's defense minister often attends and speaks at the forum.
This year's conference will bring together defense ministers, military leaders, and security experts from many regions to discuss major security challenges.
This year, a General Secretary and President of Vietnam will attend and speak at the forum for the first time.
Dr. Bastian Giegerich said To Lam committed to sharing Vietnam's perspectives and engaging in dialogue with global defense policymakers.
Dr. Giegerich said they are honored that To Lam chose the Shangri-La Dialogue to share Vietnam's views.
