Gaza Death Toll Reaches 73,000, Despite Ceasefire

The death toll in Gaza has surpassed 73,000, according to the Health Ministry, despite a ceasefire.
Israel continues to attack Gaza, saying it targets militants and responds to ceasefire violations. Five Israeli soldiers have died since the truce.
The latest death toll was confirmed by Zaher al-Waheidi and Hamza Salem from the Health Ministry.
The number of deaths is now 73,001. On Sunday, five people died, including two in Khan Younis and one in central Gaza.
More than 173,200 people have been wounded since the war began.
The war started with a Hamas attack on Israel on October 7, 2023, killing 1,200 people and taking 251 hostage.
The Health Ministry keeps detailed records, which are seen as reliable by the UN and experts. It does not distinguish between civilians and militants.
Israel says it tries to avoid harming civilians and blames Hamas for their deaths.
The US-brokered ceasefire ended full-scale military operations and led to the return of all hostages.
But other parts of the deal have stalled, with Hamas refusing to disarm and Israeli troops advancing in Gaza.
A new study says the death toll in Gaza is higher than reported in the first 15 months of the war.
The Israeli PM has ordered the military to take more of Gaza under its control.
Progress on issues like reconstruction and troop withdrawals is being held up by the deadlock over disarming Hamas.
The war has displaced most of the Palestinian population, left large parts of Gaza in rubble, and created shortages of food and medicine.
