Mum Misses easyJet Flight Due to Passport Error

A mum was not allowed on an easyJet flight with her family and lost £700 due to a passport mistake.
Bolaji Omisade, 35, was excited for her family holiday to Greece. But at the airport, she was told she couldn't board the plane.
Bolaji was confused. She was told her passport was not valid because it was issued over 10 years ago. She didn't know about this rule.
The family of five were supposed to go on holiday to Greece together.
UK passports must be issued less than 10 years before traveling to most European countries. Bolaji checked her passport's expiry date but not its issue date.
Bolaji was very sad. She had to control her emotions in front of her children. They were very disappointed.
The family decided that Bolaji and her youngest son would go home, while her husband and two older sons would fly to Greece. Bolaji saw another person being turned away for the same reason.
Bolaji quickly got an emergency appointment at the HM Passport Office.
Bolaji booked a same-day appointment to get a new passport. She traveled to Wales the night before because there were no appointments in London.
After waiting, Bolaji got a new passport and booked new flights. She and her youngest son joined the rest of the family in Greece on Thursday.
The family had a stressful time and spent an extra £700. This was for the emergency passport, hotel, travel, and new flights.
Bolaji and her youngest son finally made it to Greece but only had two days left of their holiday.
Bolaji shared her experience on social media to warn other travelers. She thinks airlines should explain the passport rule better.
You can renew or replace your passport online or at the HM Passport Office by visiting the government website.
