0:00For most of us, our best ideas come to usÂ
in the shower, or at least that's how IÂ Â
0:04tend to get video ideas, anyway. But notÂ
today - I couldn't think because I kept Â
0:08getting attacked by my shower curtain, whichÂ
obnoxiously billows inward while I'm in there.Â
0:13I thought it was happening because theÂ
hot water warms the air in the tub, Â
0:16which would then rise, causing cooler air fromÂ
outside the shower curtain to push inward.Â
0:20But when I tried showering with coldÂ
water, the exact same thing happened.Â
0:25So I dug into the research and found thatÂ
it's not the temperature, but instead, Â
0:29the air pressure in the shower. According to aÂ
twenty year old scientific paper that, believe Â
0:34it or not, tackled this problem by designingÂ
a computer simulation of water in a shower, Â
0:39as water flows into the tub, it basicallyÂ
pushes air out out. As that air rises, Â
0:44it swirls, creating a weak vortex, a showernado,Â
a hurriclean - that tugs on the curtain from the Â
0:50inside. Which is fascinating - I guess I didÂ
get a good idea from this shower after all!
