real connection point here. In the episode, Are
1:21You Slaying English? At 13:26, one of you says,
"I love Johnny Depp." And the other responds,
1:27"Me too." Connection is essential here. So, could
you explain expressions like me too, neither do I,
1:33either do I, etc. Because they all express shared
opinions, experiences, or feelings. Thank you in
1:40advance. Yeah, I love that this listener is so
tuned in to connection like we are, Michelle. Yes,
1:46definitely. And this this is huge. I mean, this is
a really good episode for connection. I think this
1:54could be one of our top connection episodes. Yes.
I can't wait. Really? Yeah. So, I mean, because we
2:01connect with people by sharing our opinions, our
interests, right? Trying to find things in common.
2:07So, this is really about agreeing and finding
common ground. Oh my gosh. Totally. Totally.
2:14Yeah. I mean, Lindsay, so what does me too mean?
It means I agree with you. Like, I see that thing
2:20the same way that you do. Uh, it's the same
for me. I feel the same. I've experienced the
2:26same thing you have, which the the listener
is totally right. It is a connection moment,
2:31right? Such a big connection moment. So, we are
going to talk more about this in just a second,
2:37but first we want to say thank you so much to

So, let's do we're going to do a couple role
3:16plays here so you can see how it's used. Um, all
right. Here we go. Here we go. I really love this
3:22restaurant. Me, too. It's delicious. Nice. Okay.
Or this one. I know, Lindsay, you agree with me.
3:29We've talked about pink. Yeah. Mhm. I think Pink
is underrated. Oh, me too. Right. And clearly, we
3:36would continue the conversation here, right? there
would be some followup but this just immediately
3:40gives you a way to agree and show the person you
see the world in the same way. Yes. Yes. Exactly.
3:47So what so me too that's kind of one of the basic
ones but we can also use others. So another one
3:55would be same here right? Yeah I love this idea of
expanding out moving beyond just me too. Me too is
4:01good but that's your starting point. There
are other things we can say. So let's show
4:04let's show our listeners this one. I love this
song. Oh, same here. Good. Yes. Yeah. So, just
4:13another tool. Yeah. Um, so another one you can
say is so do I. Or if it's more than one person,
4:19you could say so are we. So, for example, I want
to stop for coffee. Oh, so do I. I'm exhausted.
4:26Nice. I love buying coffee, buying lattes on the
weekend. I'm so bad at that. I do it all the time.
4:35Um, yeah, it's it's it's that ritual of the
coffee. You can't get past it. It's the best.
4:40Yeah. Yeah. Yum. But yeah, so the listener also
asked about neither do I and either do I. So,
4:47what's interesting is Lindsay, when you were
reading the question, are do are you an either and
4:51an either person or an either and an either? This
is a pronunciation question, right? Good question.
4:57Um, or I Oh my gosh. I think I'm more of an either
neither. Okay. Cuz when you read the question, you
5:04were an either neither. I guess I'm I guess I'm
what do you say? Ambidextrous. I don't know. Yeah,
5:08I guess you can do either. You could do Oh, but
I'm being nice. I'm an either neither. Okay. Um
5:18I So guys, you will sorry because this may have
gotten confusing. So these words are spelled nei
5:25t h e r. That's neither. And either is ei h
e r. Now, some people pronounce that with a
5:35E sound and some people pronounce it with an I
sound. And neither one is right or wrong. It's
5:40just what you're used to. So, you don't So, pick
your favorite and go with it. That's what Yeah.
5:45Or mix it up. Keep it interesting. You know, you
could do whatever you want. I love when we have
5:50options when it comes to pronunciation. But true.
This phrase, Michelle, feels a little strange to
5:55me. Is either I mean, this idea of either do I.
Is that something we actually say grammatically in
6:02English? No, we we're not going to say either do
I. That one doesn't work. But what about neither
6:09do I? Neither do I. Neither do I. Totally cool.
Yes. Yes. So, we use neither do I when we agree
6:18with someone who is saying something with a
negative. Okay. So, it doesn't mean they are
6:25saying something negative necessarily. It's not
like, oh, if they say something bad, but that
6:31they have a negative in the sentence. Okay. So,
let's do some mini role plays here. Um, I don't
6:37think we need to leave early. Uh, neither do I.
The traffic is pretty calm at 11:00 a.m. Okay. So,
6:43you said something. You've you've formed your
sentence in the negative and I agree with you,
6:48right, Michelle? Yeah. So, you could have said
I mean, another way of saying the same thing was
6:54would be if I said, I think we can leave a little
later. And then you could say, "Me, too. Me too.
7:01Same here." Right? Same here. Right. In in that
area. Um, but since I had it in the negative,
7:07you're gonna use a neither. Um, let's do another
example. Okay. I don't really like her new album.
7:13Neither do I. I miss her old style. Mhm. And
again, I formed my statement in the negative.
7:19And you agree. So, you're going to say neither do
I or neither do I. Right, Michelle? Yes. Exactly.
7:25And it doesn't just because it's a neither. It's
it doesn't like it's we're actually agreeing here.
7:32Right. Right. Yes. Don't get confused. We are on
the same page. This episode is all about how to be
7:37on the same page. Right. Exactly. Exactly. Okay.
Um we're going to go over some more of these after

So Michelle, there's still other things that
7:48we could say. What about me neither? Me neither.
Where does this come in? Me neither is it's kind
7:55of the opposite of me too. And it's also really
it's the same idea as neither do I. But you will
8:00hear people say me neither. Uh it's less formal.
It's more conversational. Um I think you would not
8:10really write me neither. Like I think neither
do right. I would say that um neither do I.
8:16Neither am I. Right. Those are probably better for
writing. I mean, you might hear me. You'll hear
8:22it. You might write it in a text message, right?
Because text messages are basically just talking.
8:28Yeah. But the weird thing about this though is we
we said earlier that we have options with neither.
8:33Neither, but I never hear someone say me neither.
Me neither. I don't hear that. True. Yeah. Because
8:39Yeah. That would Yeah. Yeah. I would say for me
neither, I would not I would just go with the e
8:46sound. Me neither. So there are some constraints
to those options that you have guys. Very kind of
8:52colloquial thing, native and natural thing. It's
a little secret here, right? Yes. Exactly. So here
8:58we go. Um here's how it would be used is I don't
usually make phone calls. Me neither. I prefer to
9:04text. Is this you, Michelle? Are you someone that
would rather text someone or do you like to get
9:09on the phone and call someone? It depends. like
it if sometimes like for work stuff, you know,
9:18I I remember with Jessica, I used to just call her
if I was confused about something and or I mean or
9:25yeah, if I'll text with Aubrey, I've called you,
you know, if there's something some sometimes I
9:30just feel like it's just easier to answer. Yeah.
No, I agree. Faster. But if there's but like I'll
9:36notice with my friends we'll be texting texting
texting and then if you're making plans all of
9:42a sudden things are getting a little confusing.
I'll call or my friend will call and they'll say
9:46and and you always hear them say something like oh
I just figure it' be it would be easier to talk on
9:51the phone. Right. Right. Yeah. You have to say
something like when you've been in a long text
9:54chain you decide to pick up the phone. You kind of
have to say something of why did you call? Right.
9:59That would be a fun a fun other episode follow.
Yeah. I like that idea, guys. Hit the follow

10:11could So, I said, "I don't usually make phone
calls." Could you have also said neither do I? Uh,

I like that. We could say that. Yeah, that would
10:21be fine as well. Yeah. So, then there's also uh
neither am I. Right. So, we can use it with am is,
10:29right? So neither am I. Neither is he. Neither is
she. Neither are we. Right. So used with tob. So
10:35you can do that as well. So here's an example.
I'm not going to the party. Neither am I. It's
10:41too late. Yeah. Right. Love that. So So you have
to match it. You have it has to match, you know,
10:47like that cuz I said I'm right. So you're not I
wouldn't say I'm not going to the party and then
10:52you would say neither do I. Right? It doesn't
work. It has to match with the tob. Mhm. the
10:57grammar form that you're using, the key verb here
needs to match. Good, good point. What else do we
11:02need to know here, Michelle? Yeah. So, again,
just to clarify, when we say negative sentence,
11:07again, we don't mean a negative opinion. We just
mean a sentence that uses a negative. Right? So,
11:13I'm not doing this. I don't like this. Right? Um
that uses a negative. Um like so for example you
11:21can say and we've talked about this you could say
I hate olives which is a negative thing but the
11:27answer would be if you well for me I would never
say me too. I know but yeah but if you also are an
11:34olive hater you could say me too right because
it's still a sentence that is in the positive.
11:40Yeah. Oh Michelle I I really want you to like
try all the olives on the planet so you could
11:45find an olive that you love. There has to be an
olive for you. I mean, an olive. An olive for
11:50me. There's cola mata. There's so many different
kinds out there, right? I don't know. No. Okay.
11:56All right. No takers. No takers. All right.
Let's go into a role play here of What are we
12:01doing here? Okay. So, here we are. Acquaintances
at a mutual friends party. Okay. Here we go. Wow,
12:08this party is amazing. I love the decorations. Me,
too. They really outdid themselves this year. I am
12:14terrible with decorating. Oh, same here. I have
no talent for that. Oh, neither do I. I'm amazed
12:21by people who do, though. Are you traveling
for the holidays? No, not this year. Neither
12:26are we. We are staying put. We're saving up for
a summer vacation. Oh, so are we. Nice. Okay. So,
12:33we're finding, you know, the connection piece here
is we're finding what we have in common. Yes. And
12:38how we see the world the same way and maybe where
we differ in some cases, right? All right. Yep.
12:43Yep. Exactly. So, I said, "This party is amazing.
I love the decorations." And you said, "Me,
12:49too." Right. I agree with you. Right. And then
I'm making an additional comment. Normally, you
12:55wouldn't just say, "Me, too." And then be quiet.
You would say something. Yeah. Right. Right. Yeah.
12:59If you want to continue it on, right? Then you got
to keep keep talking. For sure. And then I said,
13:04"I'm terrible with decorating. I'm making like a
I'm revealing something that I wouldn't be able to
13:10do this well." And you're saying, "Oh, same here.
I have no talent for that. Right. And yeah, this
13:17is this is good because um it I could you could
have said, "Oh, me too." Right? But we just said,
13:24"Me, too." So, here we have some more options. Um
so, that's really good. And then, uh so I said,
13:30"I have no talent for that." Which is true. And
then you said, "Oh, neither do I." Right? So,
13:36again, we're we have a negative. So, now we're
moving into neither. Um, and we're using the
13:42verb to do, right? And then you I said, "Are you
traveling for the holidays?" And you said, "No,
13:47not this year." And then I agreed with you, right?
I said in our case, the case is the same for us,
13:52right? Neither are we. Right. Yeah. You wouldn't
say me too, right? Yes. Right. You know, um,
14:01so that wouldn't really work there because of the
negative. No. Um. Yeah. And then you said, "We are
14:07saving up for a summer vacation." and I said, "So
are we." Nice. Nice. Yeah. So, it seems like we we
14:13align on a lot of things which could make us think
like we want to become better friends, right?
14:18Because we're acquaintances. Maybe we'll become I
mean we do it is true that we tend to make friends
14:23with people that are sometimes similar to us. Um
not always and we want to have a big diversity
14:29of friends in our circle, but the people that see
life in the same way, that's why we become friends
14:35with them sometimes, right? And this will just
lead you to more and more things that you find
14:39in common. You know, once the ball gets rolling,
you know, then it can be, "Oh, me too. Oh, wow.
14:46That's the same for me." Right? Everything starts
moving. So, guys, huge, huge, huge for connection.
14:51I don't think we can stress that enough. Um, even
though these are really kind of teeny tiny little
14:56phrases, they're very important and can really
help you build that connection. Yeah, we can say
15:01they punch above their weight, right? They punch
above their weight. also a good episode topic for
15:06another day for that expression. Guys, go find uh

15:36good point which Lindsay brought up a lot was, you
know, don't just say me too and then look look in
15:40the other direction, right? This is your chance.
This is your chance. This is your real chance to
15:45start building those connections. So, make sure
that you try and add as much as possible. Share
15:50yourself, share information, um your opinions,
all sorts of things. And that's going to help
15:55you really connect with people. Totally agree.
Take advantage of these moments when you see that
15:59connection opportunity. There are other times
in life when we show up at a party and we feel
16:03we have nothing in common with anyone. They
say things and we're like, "Oh, that's really
16:08different from my perspective and we don't really
know what to say." Right? But these are moments
16:12when there is a lot of material there. So, say
something right. Love it. Exactly. Excellent. All
