Klopp Sets the Record Straight on Salah and Brandt

Jürgen Klopp, the former manager of Liverpool, has addressed speculation about his alleged preference for signing Julian Brandt over Mohamed Salah back in 2017.

At the time, there were rumors circulating that Klopp wanted to bring Brandt to Liverpool from his old club, Borussia Dortmund, but the club's hierarchy reportedly convinced him that Salah was the better choice.

Salah joined Liverpool for a reported fee of £34.3 million in 2017 and has since become one of the club's most legendary players, with a multitude of accolades to his name.

Recently, Salah announced that he will be leaving Liverpool after a nine-year stint, during which he won nine trophies and became the third-highest scorer in the club's history.

The majority of Salah's time at Liverpool was under Klopp's management, and he played a crucial role in the team's triumphs, including the 2019 Champions League and 2019-20 Premier League titles.

In a recent interview with The Anfield Wrap, Klopp shed some light on the situation, stating that when looking for a winger, the club typically considers multiple options, and Brandt was just one of many players they discussed.

Klopp revealed that while the club did speak with Brandt, they were ultimately more convinced that Salah was the right choice, and the Egyptian's impressive track record has since proven them correct.

Interestingly, Brandt is now set to leave Dortmund at the end of the season, having made over 300 appearances for the club and scoring 56 goals with 69 assists.

During his time at Liverpool, Salah formed a formidable attacking trio with Sadio Mané and Roberto Firmino, but when he first joined the club, he expressed concerns about securing a place in the starting lineup.

Klopp recalled that when Salah asked about his position in the team, he told him he would play on the right wing, but Salah was worried about competing with Sadio Mané for a spot.

Salah even suggested that Mané could play on the left wing, but Klopp had already planned for Philippe Coutinho to occupy that position, and the rest, as they say, is history.

Looking back, it is remarkable to think about how far Salah has come, from a young player unsure of his place in the team to a global superstar, and Klopp's decision to sign him has been vindicated time and time again.
