On a recent visit to the nearby village of Lower Largo, in Fife, we decided to spend an afternoon discovering the charms of St Andrews. The town is easily accessible by car from Edinburgh and Glasgow, making it an ideal day trip or weekend getaway.

After browsing the shelves and selecting a new book to take home, we set out to find our final destination: a famous bakery that's a must-visit for anyone with a sweet tooth.

Fisher and Donaldson is a St Andrews institution, famous for its delicious fudge doughnuts that are widely regarded as the best in Scotland.

The bakery has been a family-run business since 1919, and its commitment to quality and excellence is still evident in every aspect of its operation.

The fudge doughnuts are a must-try, with their light, fluffy texture and delicious fudge icing making them the perfect treat to enjoy with a cup of coffee.

As we left St Andrews and headed back home, we couldn't help but feel that we'd only scratched the surface of this charming town.
