0:00For most of us, our best ideas come to us
in the shower, or at least that's how I
0:04tend to get video ideas, anyway. But not
today - I couldn't think because I kept
0:08getting attacked by my shower curtain, which
obnoxiously billows inward while I'm in there.
0:13I thought it was happening because the
hot water warms the air in the tub,
0:16which would then rise, causing cooler air from
outside the shower curtain to push inward.
0:20But when I tried showering with cold
water, the exact same thing happened.
0:25So I dug into the research and found that
it's not the temperature, but instead,
0:29the air pressure in the shower. According to a
twenty year old scientific paper that, believe
0:34it or not, tackled this problem by designing
a computer simulation of water in a shower,
0:39as water flows into the tub, it basically
pushes air out out. As that air rises,
0:44it swirls, creating a weak vortex, a showernado,
a hurriclean - that tugs on the curtain from the
0:50inside. Which is fascinating - I guess I did
get a good idea from this shower after all!
