A Father-in-law Saves a Life by Donating a Kidney

A man got a second chance at life when his 84-year-old father-in-law donated a kidney.
Ian, 49, had a failing transplant and was on dialysis for years.
Ian had his first kidney transplant 12 years ago, but it failed after six years due to an autoimmune disease.
For years, Ian's life was on hold because of his illness, and he couldn't work or enjoy activities.
Despite his age, Graham offered to donate his kidney and was approved.
Graham had the operation at Manchester Royal Infirmary.
Over a year later, Ian and Graham talked about their experience on This Morning.
Ian and Graham appeared on This Morning.
Ian said he and Graham now have a strong bond, and they always got along well.
Graham explained that he donated his kidney because he saw Ian getting worse every day.
Graham felt he had to act because Ian's life was in danger, and other family members couldn't donate.
Graham called Ian and offered to donate his kidney, and they found out they were compatible.
Ian spent years managing his failing transplant and dialysis.
Ian was very ill, and they had to act fast to save his life.
Ian was given only 12 hours to live, but they were able to do the operation in October.
In November 2024, Ian and Graham had the transplant surgery at Manchester Royal Infirmary.
Ian thanked the NHS and the hospital staff for their help and care.
Ian said the transplant changed his life and the lives of those around him.
This Morning airs on ITV1 and ITVX from 10 am on weekdays.
