Steam Deck OLED Price Increase

The Steam Deck OLED is a top handheld gaming PC, but its value has changed.

Valve announced a big price increase for the OLED Steam Deck after it was out of stock. It is now available, but at a higher price.

The 512GB version now costs $789, up from $549. The 1TB version is $949, up from $649. This is a big price increase due to a global memory shortage.

For comparison, the PlayStation 5 price increased by $150 to $200. The Nintendo Switch 2 price increased by $50. The Steam Deck OLED price increase is bigger than these.

You can still buy a refurbished model for less. Refurbished 512GB and 1TB OLED models cost $629 and $759. The old LCD Steam Deck can be bought refurbished for $279 with 64GB of storage.

Before the memory shortage, hardware prices usually went down over time. Now, consoles are cheapest when they are first released. This seems strange.
