0:11MATT EVANS (VOICEOVER):
A tortoise's shell
0:13isn't as sensitive as, uh--
as their skin, obviously.
0:16When you touch the shell,
they know that's happening.
0:24So it's not just like it's a
big stone rock on their back
0:27that they-- that
they can't feel.
0:29They do understand
the different tactile
0:30sensations when you are
tapping and touching,
0:32uh-- touching that shell.
0:37Tortoises enjoy different
tactile sensations-- rubbing,
0:40scratching, that kind of thing.
0:42So when we go in
there with them,
0:44and we're kind of
engaging with them,
0:45we will kind of rub their shell.
0:47We'll scratch their
neck a little bit.
0:48And when we do that, they
extend that neck out.
0:51They look like they're
enjoying it a little bit,
0:53and that's just
something we kind
0:54of do to interact with our
tortoises on a daily basis.
