DWP Minister Gives Update on PIP Review

DWP minister Pat McFadden spoke to the Work and Pensions Committee.

A DWP minister gave an update on the review of the PIP benefit system. He mentioned some key dates for the project.

PIP helps people with long-term health conditions or disabilities. It provides financial support to cover extra costs. The benefit is worth up to £194.60 a week. A review is under way, led by DWP minister Sir Stephen Timms, to examine areas like eligibility criteria.

Pat McFadden updated the Work and Pensions Committee on the review's progress. He said he expects an interim report before the summer recess.

The interim report must be published before the summer recess on July 16. A final report will be delivered by the end of the year.

If changes to the law are needed, they will happen after the final report. The PIP review started after the Government proposed to tighten eligibility rules.

Many MPs opposed these plans, so the Government decided not to change the benefit until the review is finished.

Mr McFadden was asked if the review was just delaying difficult decisions. He said the reviewers should not suggest big increases in costs.
