New Doctor Who Time Lord to be Announced Soon

A new Time Lord could be named very soon after Doctor Who's showrunner Russell T Davies promised an announcement.

Last month, a report said the Christmas special might be delayed and air in Easter 2027, and producers are still looking for the next Doctor.

The BBC did not comment, but Russell was asked about a Doctor Who announcement on Radio 2. He was asked by DJ Gary Davies if there would be an announcement soon.

Russell said there would be an announcement, but the BBC is slow. He said it would take about a week or two for the press release to come out. He joked about how slow the BBC is. He said he could hear the gears slowing down.

Ncuti Gatwa did not last long in Doctor Who.

Russell is promoting his Channel 4 series Tip Toe, but he was also asked about Doctor Who on the radio.

He talked about his role as showrunner, which he returned to before Doctor Who's 60th anniversary.

Russell said he keeps the show running by working on scripts, casting, and finding new stars. He said he keeps an eye on upcoming stars like Ncuti Gatwa. He said Ncuti is a very talented star.

Russell also works on the budget, schedules, and locations. He said he has a big team to help him, and it's not just him running the show.

Ncuti Gatwa left Doctor Who a year ago, and he has not been replaced yet.

The BBC said they are committed to Doctor Who and are happy that Russell is writing another Christmas special for 2026.
