Thai Airlines Increase Seat Capacity for Songkran Festival

To accommodate the surge in travel during the Songkran festival, airlines in Thailand have boosted their seat capacity by nearly 30,000 on 11 major routes linking Bangkok to other key destinations between April 10 and 15.

Songkran, which takes place from April 13 to 15, is a significant celebration in Thailand, marking the traditional Thai New Year with festivities held nationwide.

In response to high demand, airlines have increased their capacity on popular routes, ensuring that more travelers can reach their desired destinations during this peak period.

Some airlines, such as Bangkok Airways, are operating additional flights, with 24 extra flights scheduled to Koh Samui, thereby adding 1,680 seats, while others like Thai Airways are using larger planes, resulting in an extra 1,428 seats, according to reports.

Due to strong demand, cheaper tickets have been quickly snapped up, although it is anticipated that prices will decrease after the holiday season.

The authorities are keeping a close eye on ticket prices, taking into account factors such as the rising cost of jet fuel, which has been partly driven by tensions in the Middle East.

Travelers are being advised to book their tickets in advance to secure the best fares, and any complaints regarding passenger rights can be easily submitted online through the regulator's system.

Despite a slight decline in foreign visitor numbers, with 8.54 million visitors arriving between January 1 and March 22, a drop of 2.97% compared to the same period last year, Thailand remains a popular destination, and its tourism industry continues to thrive.

In an effort to attract more domestic travelers, luxury hotels across Thailand are offering significant discounts, as reported by Bloomberg, in response to a decline in foreign arrivals.
