0:00All right, let's see what's in the news
0:02today. Easier finance funding
0:08Green beautiful livable cities.
0:14India orders checks. Oh, that's
0:16interesting. Let's take a look at that
0:23India orders checks on Boeing fuel
0:25switches. That's kind of something
0:27interesting. I have a a little bit of
0:31Boeing stock. So, let's see what it says
0:33here. India's aviation safety watchdog
0:36has ordered the country's airline
0:38operators to inspect fuel control
0:40switches in Boeing aircraft after
0:43preliminary investigation reported a
0:46report on last month's deadly crash
0:48involving an Air India passenger jet
0:51showed the aircraft's engine fuel
0:53switches turned off soon after takeoff.
0:57That was the longest one sentence ever.
1:30The director general of civil aviation
1:33has issued the order as several domestic
1:37and international airlines started their
1:39own inspections of the locking
1:41mechanisms attached to the switches. The
1:44Indian Aviation Safety Regulator has
1:47directed all airline operations to
1:49complete the inspection of the engine
1:51fuel switches by July 21st.
2:10The watchdog also issued mandatory
2:12modifications for aircraft engines and
2:15components registered in India based on
2:17the airworthiness directives issued by
2:20state of design manufacturer. a
2:23statement showed. I think this is a good
2:25thing. You know, as a person who flies a
2:28lot, I would really love to make sure
2:31that uh these switches work, huh? A
2:35preliminary investigation report
2:37released on Saturday on the Air India
2:40Flight 171 disaster that killed 260
2:43people took note of a US aviation
2:46regulators 2018 bulletin which
2:50recommended airlines inspect the fuel
2:52switch locking mechanism of Boeing
2:54planes. The US Federal Aviation
2:57Administration warned of a risk in the
3:01special airworthiness information
3:03bulletins in December 18th, 2018, sorry,
3:07concerning the disengagement of locking
3:10mechanisms in fuel control switches,
3:12especially on the Boeing 737 aircraft.
3:15So, okay, now we know what caused this
3:17crash. All right, how do we fix it?
3:36The Indian investigation report
3:38indicated that Air India did not perform
3:41the inspection suggested by the US
3:43bulletin as it was advisory and not
3:49You know, they always bury that kind of
3:51stuff in, you know, legal speak. It's
3:55not mandatory. It's advised. And well,
3:58maybe maybe we should worry more about
4:01just checking things physically than I
4:05don't know, man. I'm telling you. What
4:06do you think? What do you think of this
4:08situation? Should stuff like this be
4:11advised or mandatory or should you know
4:16organizations clearly say this is
4:19required because it's not safe to fly
4:23I don't know. Let's see here. The
4:27preliminary report pointed out that the
4:30throttle control module of the crashed
4:32Air India plane had been replaced twice
4:35and the reasons for the replacement were
4:37not related to the fuel control switch.
4:40There have been no reports of failures
4:42related to the switch since 2023.
4:45H. According to the report, switches
4:48controlling fuel flow to the two engines
4:50of the Boeing 787 Dreamliner that
4:53crashed had flipped from run to cutoff
4:56position within 1 second. Wow. Shortly
5:00after takeoff from the western Indian
5:07Ahmed. Amedabad. Amedabad. I think I
5:10said that right. Let me know if I
5:29The aircraft crashed as its engines were
5:31starved of fuel. The report cited a
5:34voice recording from the cockpit. One of
5:36the pilots is heard asking the other why
5:38he cut off the fuel supply. The other
5:41pilot responded he did not do so.
5:44Indian authorities said the
5:45investigation is ongoing and urged the
5:47public not to jump to any conclusions
5:50regarding the June 12th incident
6:07which was the nation's worst aviation
6:10disaster in decades. It was. Yeah, it's
6:13absolutely terrible what happened. It's
6:15hard not to jump to conclusions though,
6:17you know. Air India's chief executive
6:21Campbell Wilson said in a memo to staff
6:23on Monday that the air crash report
6:26provided a greater clarity and opened
6:28additional questions that had triggered
6:31a new round of speculation in the media.
6:34Okay, that's a useless comment.
6:52Investigation cited criticizing the
6:56report. Indian pilot associations on
6:58Sunday termed it a lack of transparency
7:02in the investigative process. The Indian
7:05Commercial Pilots Association said in a
7:08statement that it was deeply disturbed
7:10by speculative narratives, particularly
7:13the recklessness and unfounded
7:15insinuation of pilot suicide.
7:21Well, I mean, that was all over in the
7:23news. They were talking about it being
7:24that and not some type of, you know,
7:27physical error or softwarebased error. I
7:30don't even know yet. It says a switch
7:32was turned. And so was it an electronic
7:34switch? Was it a physical switch? I
7:36don't know. There is absolutely no basis
7:39for such a claim at this stage. It said
7:42the tone and direction of the
7:43investigation suggests a bias towards
7:46pilot error. Well, why wouldn't it? Said
7:49the airline pilots association of India
7:51adding that it rejected it
7:53categorically. Of course they do. You
7:54know the pilots association is going to
7:56say no no no. We we do our job. We do
7:59what we're supposed to do. We obviously
8:02don't agree that it was pilot error. We
8:04think this is some type of planebased
8:06error or softwarebased error. But it
8:12the other people who are doing the
8:14investigation are saying, "Oh, it's a
8:32Indian pilots who spoke on condition of
8:34anonymity to this correspondent raised
8:37serious concerns regarding the current
8:40crew management practices being followed
8:42by some Indian budget airlines.
9:01What do you think happened? What's your
9:04opinion? What do you think caused that
9:06crash? Do you think it was pilot error?
