Sa Pa, Phu Quoc brace for Tet tourist rush as hotel occupancy rates reach 90%

From Feb. 18 to 20, the second to fourth days of the Lunar New Year, three-star hotels in Sa Pa recorded occupancy rates of about 80%, while four- and five-star properties outperformed, reaching roughly 90%.
Several upscale hotels were fully booked on the third and fourth days of the new year.
Outside the peak window, occupancy levels eased to between 40% and 60%.
Vietnam's largest island Phu Quoc continued maintaining its tourism craze, with most accommodation providers reporting occupancy rates above 95%.
Four-star hotels in Duong Dong area were nearly fully booked throughout the peak period.
A representative of Wyndham Grand Phu Quoc, one of the island's largest resorts, said the property was fully booked during the holiday, which runs from Feb. 14 to 22, with the majority of guests coming from overseas.
Several other destinations also witnessed bright prospects during the Tet holiday period.
In Ha Giang in the northern highlands, hotels in popular areas such as Meo Vac and Dong Van were fully booked from the new year's second day onward.
Authorities have advised travelers to confirm reservations in advance to avoid last-minute shortages.
In Lo Lo Chai, which was named the "Best Tourism Village in the World" in 2025 by the United Nations World Tourism Organization, homestays are fully booked until the eighth day of Tet.
In Quang Ninh, home to world famous Ha Long Bay, hotel occupancy during Tet hovered between 40% and 60%, with Chinese visitors making up a substantial proportion of guests.
Domestic arrivals remained limited, partly due to unfavorable northern weather conditions that curtailed beach-related activities. To boost demand, several hotels have waived holiday surcharges and introduced promotional incentives.
In Hanoi, hotel occupancy in the downtown area reached 50-60%, driven mainly by international visitors.
In central Vietnam, Da Nang maintained its position as the region's leading destination despite airfares doubling during the holiday period.
Beachfront hotels achieved occupancy rates of 80-90%, with almost no availability between the second and fourth days of Tet.
Internationally managed hotels in the city center recorded occupancy rates exceeding 80%.
In contrast, domestically branded properties underperformed, with occupancy remaining below 60%.
Nearby Hoi An was comparatively quieter, recording rates of about 50%.
In Hue, many hotels exceeded 90% occupancy during peak days.
The Hue City Department of Tourism reported an average occupancy rate of 67% across the holiday period, with four- and five-star hotels and centrally located homestays surpassing 90% from the second to fourth days of Tet.
