Gardai said they are investigating “all the circumstances” of the fire at Castleview Park in Edenderry Co Offaly where four-year-old Tadhg Farrell and his great-aunt Mary Holt were murdered in December 2025.
And now they are appealing for information after the body of a man was found inside the property in the early hours of Tuesday morning, March 24.

An Garda Siochana said: “The body of an adult person has been discovered inside the premises. A post-mortem will be conducted to determine the cause of death, which will determine the course of any Garda investigation.”
The scene has been preserved for forensic examination and gardai are appealing for any person with any information on the fire to contact them. No cause of death has been determined and no cause of the fire has yet been established. The blaze has been extinguished by local fire services, reported the Irish Mirror.
The privately owned house at Castleview Park had been occupied by relatives of Mary Holt, despite being partially boarded up following the devastating attack. Tadgh’s grandmother, Pauline Holt, who is in her 50s, was seriously injured in that incident.
A man in his late 20s, who had been detained on suspicion of murder, following the two deaths in December was released without charge in January.
The fatal petrol bomb attack in December was previously described by gardaí as a “reckless, callous and murderous” act, while Minister for Justice Jim O’Callaghan said it was “an attack designed to kill the inhabitants.”
The statement in full from the Gardai reads: "An Garda Síochána is currently investigating all the circumstances of a house fire that has occurred at a domestic residence in Castleview Park, Edenderry, Co. Offaly.
