GPs will also send patients to the gym as part of the changes. Sir Charlie Mayfield said the fit-note system isn't working as it should.

The goal is to reduce the number of people who can't work due to illness.

Sir Charlie recommended changes in a review last year. WorkWell is a service that helps people with health issues get back to work.

WorkWell is for people with disabilities or health conditions who can work with the right support.

The change is part of a plan to focus on health and work instead of just managing sickness. The government launched a £64 million WorkWell scheme last year.
